My students need 25 copies of Sincerely Yours Writing Your Own Letter so that they can learn to communicate with family, friends, peers, and businesses through mail.
As a teacher in a low-income and high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to close the gaps in their education.
How can we close the achievement gap without classroom materials to help support their understanding of the lesson?
My class serves students with a range of disabilities including intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. The typical student in my class reads below grade level, and many struggle with basic phonics and vocabulary. Some students are also below grade level in solving mathematics because they struggle with multiplication and division facts. Having individual whiteboards for my students will help me quickly assess the needs of my students in all subject areas.
My Project
Pen pals, thank you cards, and get well soon cards have become a thing of the past. Nowadays, students only know how to text using emojis and codes on cellular devices through Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter. Ten years ago, it was extremely easy for a student to grab a pen, a piece of paper and write a letter or card to a distant family member or a friend who has moved away. Recently I have noticed that many students do not even know how to correctly send a thank you letter or get well soon card!
Students have lost the art of writing friendly letters to their family members, peers, and businesses.
With 25 copies of this amazing book, Sincerely Yours Writing Your Own Letter, students will learn the basics of writing friendly letters, cards, and business letters. Each page consists of tools and examples to help students along the way as they begin to write letters of their own. It even shows tips on how to address your envelopes!
With this book, students in my class will be able to more effectively write to distant relatives or friends, or maybe even a pen pal! They will be able to effectively write a thank you letter to their friends after receiving gifts at a birthday party! Writing has become a lost art, and it is my goal for my class and many more to come learn how to pick up a pen and write a friendly letter!
