Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you saw the book, The Cat in the Hat? I'm sure you worked with a parent, sibling, or favorite adult to help you learn the pattern and letters in the story. My students are beginning to feel success in recognizing letters in the world around them.
My classroom is very active with 27 kindergarten students.
They come to school eager to learn, but need materials to help keep them engaged. Most of my students do not have additional resources at home to help their learning. Parents expect the kindergarten of the past (knowing letters or worksheets), but they need more active learning to develop thinking skills. My students love to talk and create new worlds through their stories and pictures. They enjoy being active and working with partners and groups. My school encourages active, hands-on learning, but lacks the resources to stock classrooms. I have made several sets of games, but students need other materials in their hands.
My Project
My students are active learners and like to produce projects to share at home. My students will use the white boards to practice writing as a whole group, writing sentences in small groups, and practicing letters and familiar words independently. Students will use the magnetic letters to build new words and practice familiar ones. We will use the stamps to practice identifying letters, sounds and words. Students will have the power to build and create letters and words independently and grow from it.
My students have learned and grown so much this year, but I know that they need additional practice to catch up to peers.
I love hearing the hum of a busy and productive classroom. Your donation can help get my students ready for first grade and beyond.
