I am a Title I teacher in a small, rural school district. I work exclusively with kindergarteners. They come to me because they are struggling and significantly behind in the core areas of reading and math.
My students arrive at my door with various barriers to learning already in place at this very early age.
Most are below poverty level and come from homes with broken or blended families. Many arrive not having the academic support they need from family members and so have never learned to value education.
What many of these students need most is a caring adult who will invest time and effort in them in an environment that is safe, comforting, and engaging. Unfortunately, this does not happen regularly and because of this they have fallen behind their peers in academic progress. So begins their lengthy journey of trying to make up the lost ground created by the circumstances of their lives.
My Project
Kindergarten is the time when students need to be immersed in alphabet knowledge! Learning is more apt to take place when students can experience the alphabet in as many ways as possible. That means when they can see, hear, and feel the letters and sounds, they are more likely to acquire the needed letter knowledge.
Touchtronic Letters combine technology and tactile learning opportunities for our littlest learners.
Students will be able to place the Touchtronic Letters directly onto an iPad and be able to interact with the corresponding Touchtronic app for a learning experience that engages sight, sound, and touch as they work toward alphabet mastery! That is way more fun than practicing with flashcards!
