Our students in the Arkansas Delta often begin school with limited background knowledge and experiences. Despite this, they are eager to learn and are particularly engaged when we can offer hands on lessons.
Providing our students developmentally appropriate tools is vital to their success.
The majority of our students are from families, in which the income is below the poverty line. It is our desire to provide them with experiences that they would not otherwise enjoy outside of a classroom setting.
Children of poverty share common characteristics with children that have dyslexia. As educators, we know that these children link experiences to new learning. In fact, for most, it is essential that they are provided these experiences at school.
Hands on learning is not only important, but it is critical for children in poverty.
It makes learning happen faster and increases the likelihood that the students will retain the information.
These sounds tubs will be used in our kindergarten classrooms when introducing new letters and their sounds. They can also be used throughout the year for other skills, such as beginning and ending sounds in words and building words.
