Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every year I am challenged to develop engaging, creative, new ways to capture my students attention and love for learning. With each class the amount of support my students need seem to ever grow. My students vary in disabilities and ages yet one common theme ties them together; their love for learning. I love how curious they are and their wiliness to give you so much. Every day I ask them to practice their reading skills, comprehension skills, math, science, etc. On top of our core curriculum our students are asked to do coding and online English and math programs to boost their skills. With the varying disabilities access to the curriculum, to the coding lessons, and online components are often fairly difficult. A lot has to go into modifying not other tasks/assignments/activities but also modifying seating, pencils, earphones, etc. Even with the daily struggles my students show up greeting me with a shake and a smile everyday. When faced with a task that may seem impossible they raise their hands and ask for help. They know to keep going, to persevere through challenges.
My Project
With Osmo hands-on learning games, students will be able to find fun and engaging ways to manipulate and learn their upper and lower case letters. Osmo can be used as an independent center so that students can have extra practice with what they have learned in an interactive way that keeps students learning without even knowing it! All students, especially those with special needs, always need that support, and these tools are just the thing we need this year! The hands-on, visual, and auditory way that information is given is just what we need to keep our students interested in learning their letters and sounds, which are basic fundamentals to build reading skills.
