Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are intelligent and inquisitive 4 and 5-year-old English and Spanish speakers from a high-poverty area in Southern California.
TK is the place to be!
This is often their first school experience, and I want to make it successful and fun for them.
Many are attending school for the first time without the necessary social or academic preparation, and some have the additional obstacle of learning English at the same time. Even with all of these challenges, the kids love to come to school.
My Project
My students are ready to learn! For them to be strong readers and writers, they need lots of experience with the alphabet.
Kids learn best when they are having fun!
These games and manipulatives are so engaging for the kids...they’ll think they’re just playing, but they’re really practicing very important skills. They will learn letter names and shapes, as well as the basic sounds for all letters. They will practice writing letters and read books about each letter, too.
Transitional kindergarten is the first year of school for many of my students. With your help, they’ll be off to a wonderful start!
