In our low-income school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. To assist with the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as typical.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on my students' potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
My students are learning writing skills. I have found that students are much more motivated to write when they have fun supplies to use! They love using good pencils, folders for organization, labels, black markers and post-it notes for any notes we need.

My students are working on literary essays and poetry this semester. Please help us to get our supplies we need to write properly. Unfortunately many of my students come from a low income household and are not privileged to be able to explore writing with some of these supplies. I would like to give them the opportunity to experience this with the hope to interest a love of writing.
