Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a first grade teacher at a Title I school in Orlando, Florida. Some students have been relocated from Puerto Rico due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria this past year. This is my sixth year at my school. My students are such eager learners. My students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and for most of them English is not spoken at home. These students need as much exposure to English and new vocabulary as possible. Due to their disadvantaged backgrounds my students are in need of materials that can help them become better scholars.
My Project
I have included in my project several items that will help my scholars to become more confident and successful in writing. Most of my students are ELL's meaning that English is not their first language.
The materials listed in my project include pocket charts, these will help students with vocabulary and sequencing.
I will use the mentor texts to grab their attention first with a story, will make for a more excited and successful writer The writing center will allow them to take the skills being taught and putting into practice independently.
I cannot wait to see how these products will enhance my students writing in the classroom!
