Mrs. Brown from Chicago IL is requesting classroom basics through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need pencils and pens!! Most students are unsuccessful because they lack the necessary essentials for learning. School supplies which are the most basic items are difficult for students in my school to acquire.

For the 2018-2019 school year, I will be taking on a brand new grade level 6th. I am excited and ready to face this new challenge. My students live in an urban area with high crime, drugs, and prostitution. However one would never know this is what these children face once they exit the doors of the school. These students are intelligent, innovative, curious, and genuinely great kids.
In my particular district 6th grade is extremely important, if students aren't successful they must complete summer school to be promoted to the next grade level or repeat 6th grade.
This is the reason I stated earlier that this is a new and challenging experience for myself because it carries a heavyweight. I don't want any child to feel left out or left behind. To hear them run up to me and say "You're going to be my teacher next year," and smile and offer hugs made my heart melt. So I am dedicated myself to make sure all students current and future are successful.
Pens and pencils are one of the most basic school supplies that a student could need. It is also the one that students lack the most. Often times students will sit and not complete assignments due to not having a pencil and being ashamed to ask their neighbor or to raise their hands to ask. If I can create an environment in my classroom where basic supplies are available at each of my tables, students won't have to face that embarrassment and are free to grab pencils and paper at their own discretion.
I have requested a box of pre-sharpened pencils.
This way as soon as students are seated they are ready for instruction!
