I teach middle schoolers at a Title I charter school in a small city. Many of my students are the first people in their family receiving any type of schooling and I teach many special education students at all levels from all walks of life. Oftentimes my students go straight from work to home to take care of their siblings, forced to be mature beyond their time. Our school is diverse with students from all different socio-economic backgrounds, but they are all energetic and eager to learn! Our school encourages inquisitive, outside the box thinking and 6th grade sets the grounds for how passionate students are about learning and I would love to create a classroom environment to help them learn in the manner that is best for them.
With flexible seating options, reading materials and non-electronic resources, you can help instill a lifetime love of learning.
These resources help their bodies wiggle and move without being crammed into uncomfortable desks, and collaborate using non-electronic materials. As a Title I school, we don't often get much outside help, and your donations will go a long way in giving students the desire to soar in education.
My Project
Have you ever tried sitting in a desk all day? By the end of the day, your legs are cramped, your back aches and your focus lies not on the subject, but on your discomfort. My middle schoolers have growing bodies that are always shifting, tapping, and wiggling and I want to help them keep their focus on the learning instead of on the hard desk seat.
Flexible seating options will keep students more engaged and less disruptive of their fellow classmates with the opportunity to sit on the floor with a lap desk, stools for collaborative table work, wiggle chairs for getting out all the ants in the pants and energy that bursts forth from them.
These options help students work comfortably and collaboratively, preparing them for a future of working with colleagues. Help create a generation of learners as these materials will be used for years to come!
