I teach in a low income area. The majority of my students live with one parent, grandparents, or are in foster care. We have a wide variety of needs in the classroom from ADHD, ESL, to learning disabled. With focus being a large challenge.
My students are very good at going with the flow.
They do not fuss or complain even though they are crammed together at tables with hardly any room for their supplies. With the number of our students growing a larger space for them to work is one thing that I want to give them. If they are comfortable they will work harder.
My Project
Classrooms and how they function are changing at a rapid pace. Gone are the days where we sat in rows of desks. Now we are focused more on collaboration which means we have to buy new furniture. Unfortunately, budget constraints make upgrading to fit the needs of your students difficult.
Let's give this classroom the ability to work together in small groups.
My current room has small tables that do not easily fit four students with enough space to work. In other words, the students are cramped. They are wobbly, chipped and not giving the students the ability to work as a team with ease. This table has four individual spots for students to sit. A larger area to set their supplies and a work area that allows both individual and group work.
