This might be my most exciting year, yet! I am new to third grade. I have taught 4th grade for 8 years and have been a TOSA (teacher on special assignment) for three years, and now, I am beginning a new journey as a third grade teacher. Last year, as a TOSA, I was able to visit the 2nd grade classes to assist in their education and provide feedback to teachers. This year, I have the very students who needed mine and other's support for their very diverse needs.
So, as this year begins, I am concerned about the highly impacted students entering my classroom as I already know that they are going to need alternative seating arrangements and I don't have the funding to provide them that option.
Numerous studies show that students with ADHD perform better when their core is engaged so that they can better focus on their assignments. I would so appreciate the opportunity to give the students who need it, alternative seating so that they can perform at their highest potential.
My Project
We need some flexible seating! As I mentioned earlier, I am concerned about the highly impacted students entering my classroom. I already know that they are going to need alternative seating arrangements. Since studies show that students with ADHD perform better when their core is engaged, I want to provide them the opportunity to better focus on their assignments. I would so appreciate the opportunity to give the students who need it, alternative seating so that they can perform at their highest potential. During independent work times students can choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. Over the years, I have noticed that when students are given a choice in their seating, they are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are forced into the hard, metal chairs that the school provides.
Students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
Just like some of the other teachers who have asked for similar products I am hoping to help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The wobble stools are adjustable and will allow students to sit at desk/higher tables but will still allow some movement. These will be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out. They can also be used as an alternative chair if needed! The beanbag chairs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom.
