My students need visuals to help with social emotional development, communication and self regulation skills. With laminate and velcro, we can make the visuals they need to be successful.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Please help my students with their communication and self-regulation skills! I am a preschool special education teacher at a general education school site. I have eight students with autism and share facilities with three other preschool autism classrooms as well as a first grade autism classroom and a kindergarten autism classroom.
All of our students have unique needs: whether it's learning to speak, learning to use their hands, making friends or figuring out how to self-regulate.
Because of these unique needs, we require the use of many visuals in the classroom as well as materials that help with sensory regulation. Children with Autism understand and comprehend language better when there are visuals paired with verbal language. As the weather is becoming nicer, we need more activity to help with social skills (peer relations) and Sensory needs (hands-on materials that can be incorporated into the curriculum.
My Project
With the laminate and velcro we can make many visuals and adapt books to help our student's learn in their classroom. We make icons to help with transitions, express emotions, help kids communicate and give them options when they need to pick things.
Many of our students need everything to be adapted so we use laminate and velcro to make it more permanent and useful for years to come.
Currently, we are working on strengthening our social emotional curriculum. This requires us to create many poster and books for the students to have available to them. With these materials we can easily make them available!
