My Students

The students in the FHS Theatre Department create, design, perform and produce up to 7 plays per school year. It is their home, their safe creative space, and their place to be themselves. Many students take theatre all four years of high school.

A typical theatre season includes a full-length Shakespeare play, a musical, something classical, something avant garde, and a healthy helping of student-written work.

Many of our students have gone on to study the theatre in college, and have had careers in the performing arts.

My Project

The construction workshop that is used by the students in Stagecraft at Fremont High School in Sunnyvale is the last vestige on campus of a good old-fashioned wood shop.

By upgrading the tools available to our students, we will be able to improve the quality of their educational experience as well as the quality of their finished props and scenery.

A scroll saw allows a woodworker to do fine detailed cutting. This will make it possible to create decorative edges and realistic props. The art of stagecraft often requires us to create fancy and expensive-looking objects out of humble materials. A scroll saw will allow us to do this more effectively.
