Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our district educates approximately two hundred and fifty, residential and day students in kindergarten through grade twelve who have emotional, behavioral and learning problems. Most students reside here and live in cottages with an array of different staff members supporting them.
The computer lab is open to students in grades kindergarten through twelve.
Our classroom is designed to attract all ages and has a very warm and welcoming atmosphere of happiness to it when you enter. We try to keep a peaceful environment. Lessons are tailored to each student's ability and most often, one-on-one instruction is necessary.
My Project
I want to be able to reward one top student who reaches level 100 on Nitrotype with a laptop where he can practice his typing continually. Levels are important as it tells the teacher how often a student is practicing at home or on any other device when available. With prizes at the end of the year, this laptop will help motivate them to come to school and work hard while they are here.
Students hard work should be rewarded!
I have daily incentives such as M&M's, Twizzlers, Ring Pops, Dum Dums, Gum, Chips, Gummy Bears, and assorted candy items.
But I also want to help get some big ticket items so they can keep up with their typing and take their typing skills to their home environment! The laptop will be one of the many devices they can select from! Whether it's a tablet or a laptop, my students will be prepared to type away!
Students will compete with one another and have fun during this process. Prizes like this will be theirs to keep and practice on! Computer class is so much easier when students can go home to their personal device and practice what they have learned in class! Every student should have a laptop to learn on!
