Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are from various Latin American countries. Our school is located in a low income area in Houston, Texas and over 90% of the school's population is economically disadvantaged. Many of the students come to school very hungry and tired daily. This is in part due to the fact that most of these kids only get one meal per day. This meal is usually received at school. When they go back home, food is scarce. As a result, our students come to school with very low energy almost daily. Despite all of these challenges, I want to be able to provide something that will make their days much more bright and adventurous.
My Project
My students have little to no experience with Fire 8D Tablets. Most of them never used one before; however, when I took them to the school library to complete a technology project, they were all so excited to work with iPads. They were extremely engaged and enthused throughout the entire time they were working on their projects.
There is no better way for students to learn than through meaningful, engaging, and interesting activities that requires the use of technology.
I plan on having my students explore the world with the use of the tablets and headphones. They can study bodies of water, different types of animals, plants, people, and many other things. They can also learn how to use Microsoft Office programs, create movies, read books online, publish their own books, and communicate with one another through the use of Schoology.
