Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are a Spanish dual language kindergarten classroom in a Title I school. Most of my students come from low income families and all receive free breakfast and lunch.
It is such a great opportunity to learn a second language at such a young age because being bilingual can increase their opportunities for their future.
My students range from white-Caucasian to African American and Latino. My Latino students also come from all over Central America and Mexico. They will grow up to be global citizens who understand and get along with people from all walks of life.
My Project
Learning a second language is not only about the language but also about the cultures that come with it. I want my students to grow up to be educated global citizens. Learning about all these other cultures that exist around them will help my students avoid racial and ethnic prejudice.
Having these materials to play with will help them learn through play about all these cultures around the world!
They will be available for them to play with during their "free choice" time. Play is such an important part of kindergarten because this is when they learn social and emotional skills. Incorporating multicultural play makes this opportunity even better for them.
