In a public charter school that pulls students from all over the state, serving a high population in Manchester. My students have a unique hunger for learning and discovering with a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities. As a young school, we have big ideas with high energy and motivation.
As a public charter school we receive one third to half the funding of traditional public schools in our state.
This creates a great inequity between our funding structure and those of neighboring schools in our geographic area. Therefore, we rely heavily on donations to support our expanding school. Thank you for your consideration and thoughtfulness to donate to this project.
My Project
When students think of pottery, they think of throwing on the pottery wheel and they are so excited to try it. Our ceramics program is rapidly expanding. Each year students are more impassioned to become makers and creators. I am looking to expand our program to include pottery wheel skills.
When students get a taste for the pottery wheel, they come in every chance they get to use it.
Currently, the pottery wheel we have is borrowed. Our students would greatly benefit from having a pottery wheel owned by the art department for them to use all school year long.
Founders students gain an entrepreneurial spirit while at Founders. As students become proficient, they will be able to earn money by splitting the proceeds with the school. Half will go to funding an additional wheel, which will support the exponential growth of our program, and the remaining half will go back to the students. This will promote the school mission by teaching the students entrepreneurship. They will learn how to promote and manage their product to generate business within the context of art.
My students are diving into projects that explore a variety of techniques and explore context using art history and self reflection. They are eager to learn new techniques and explore different media in our studio art classroom. I hope to inspire students to think creatively in art, academics, and in their lives and to consider the context and deeper meaning in their work.
