This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Greetings and thank you for taking the time to read my multicultural proposal. I am a pre-kindergarten teacher at an elementary school in Charlotte, NC. Most of the children attending this school come from low-income families. I have four and five year olds with more than half of them speaking a language other than English. I am fortunate to have such a diverse group of children and want to celebrate their differences as well as their similarities through art.
One way I plan on doing this is by providing my students with a variety of materials that represent their skin tones instead of the typical black, white, and brown materials that I have now. The items include skin toned craft paper, colored pencils, crayons, and markers. I am also requesting Make-a-Face sheets and a people shapes project kit to use during our multicultural night at my school so children and parents can create a puppet together. Finally, another way we as a class can explore other cultures is by acting out plays using multicultural puppets. These puppets are great because they are dressed in the countries traditional outfits.
Again I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my proposal, my students and I appreciate it.
