My students need games and manipulatives because they begin school lacking basic skills necessary for future language acquisition and intelligible communication. They are all served under the special education umbrella.
I am a speech-language pathologist and certified teacher! I have the honor to work with PPCD (Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities), Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten. I typically have about 45-50 students on my caseload who are working on skills to make them a better communicator. This can be stuttering, articulation deficits, receptive and expressive, language deficits, and students who are multi-modalities communicators (Augmentative and Alternative Communication), sign language, etc. My students and I collaborate with their general education teachers to help them be successful in the classroom!
My Project
My students have communication challenges with speech sounds, recognizing letters, sounding out words, receptive and expressive language delays, and lack social skills needed to be great communicators and learners.
Making many speech sounds, like the /B, P, L, K, G, S, CH, S-blends, L-blends/ sounds, do not come naturally to my students.
My job is to teach my students to properly make their speech sounds so that they can be understood and confident communicators. My students are young, 3-6 years old! Drill based therapy to work on sounds can be difficult to stay engaging!
These games will also help my students with language delays.
Some on my students are learning basic vocabulary. Recognizing and producing simple words. Games are motivating! Most of my students are from low socioeconomic status homes and I want to do everything in my power to help them succeed academically and communicate effectively to build connections with peers and adults! My students are motivated by games and I would love to provide them with fun while they practice speech!
