My Students

As an ESOL teacher in a diverse school community, I service over 60 kindergarten and first grade students who speak Spanish, Italian, Arabic, Jamaican Creole, Romanian, Mandarin, French and Krio. ESOL students are often faced with many challenges, however, these scholars are unique individuals who are eager to learn and never give up.

What I admire the most is their ambition, creativity and hard work!

These attributes are what drives them forward and helps make them successful as they acquire language.

My Project

Playdough has many benefits, promotes play, sparks creativity and increases fine motor skills to name a few. Along with these benefits playdough will help increase my students oral language skill. As an ESOL teacher I encourage a lot of classroom discussion. Using art will allow my students meaningful topics to talk about.

There are endless possibilities for students to talk about the masterpieces they create!

With the diverse population I service, creating art during the ESOL period will help students orally describe their artwork, discuss how they made it, express their feelings or even use their imagination to create a story about their artwork.
