Ms. Jenkins from Chicago IL is requesting educational kits & games through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need communication and social skills materials such as Language Builder Picture Noun Flash Cards, Social Skills Board Games, and Learning Resources Recordable Answer Buzzers to practice speaking and establishing relationships with others.

My students are middle school students with low incidence disabilities, most primarily diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. They are fun loving children who have a variety of needs. My school is located on the south side of Chicago, and resources are limited. My students love learning with technology, doing yoga, and watching videos to enhance their learning. Most of my students are able to verbally communicate; however, some are not. My students, as well as most students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, have a variety of sensory needs. My students have difficulties finding calming strategies when they cannot find the words to express their feelings. Even though they have many challenges to face every day, they are happy kids who enjoy coming to school and love learning.
My students have autism and other cognitive disorders that affect their ability to communicate and establish social relationships compared to their same age peers. In order to work on these skills, it takes explicit teaching and practice. That is why we need games and activities to make teaching these skills meaningful and fun!
Everyone should be able to make friends and maintain social relationships!
My students just need a little extra help and support in order to do so. We practice in the classroom using games and activities. The Didax Social Skills games and Mindfulness therapy games will help the students practice skills such as manners, empathy and managing emotions. The Stages Learning Materials Language Builder Cards and Key Education Photo cards will help students with sentence structure and speaking in complete sentences. After we use these materials in the classroom to practice the skills, then I will help students generalize the skills by having them practice with peers and adults in the school community.
