Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Tell me and I forget. Show me and I remember. Involve me and I understand.” – Chinese proverb.
I teach enthusiastic, engaging, and energetic four-year-old learners in a collaborative (general education and special education) Expanded Transitional Kindergarten (pre-k) in a large, urban, 100% Title I, Los Angeles school.
We spend our day actively learning through play and hands-on experiences. Our classroom provides students with opportunities to develop their social skills and the foundation for academic learning. We have a diverse range of abilities and work together to foster an inclusive community.
My Project
My students spend at least 1/3 of their day outside running, jumping, throwing, catching, climbing, pretending, planning, creating, and collaborating. Outdoor play helps students develop their gross motor skills, fosters social-emotional development, and encourage problem-solving.
I would love to provide a variety of outdoor toys and equipment for my students to use and learn from.
Scooter boards would help with balance and motion, ribbons would encourage creative movement, water droppers would be used for water exploration, an easy catch ball assist in developing confidence in ball handling skills, and a smaller parachute would promote cooperation and working as a team.
