Let's Stop Bullying

My students need the book Wonder because it is an amazing resource when teaching students about bullying.

My Students

A book can teach students many things facts about a subject, how to use their imagination, how to cope in stressful situations, and so much more. I know growing up I wasn't a big reader, but I feel I wasn't introduced to the right books. It wasn't until college I found reading to be enjoyable.

One of my goals as a 4th grade teacher is to teach students that reading can be fun.

Although this is my first year teaching, I have found if you find a book students can relate to they will be more interested. This is where you come in to help!

My Project

In 4th grade bullying has become quite the buzz word lately. Last year when I discovered the "Wonder" series I knew I needed to share it with my students. I read the first book to the students stopping frequently to discuss the different scenarios.

For those of you who may not have read "Wonder" before I would highly recommend reading it to your child, especially if you are concerned about bullying.

This book is about a boy, Auggie, who was born with many medical deformities. This has caused his mother to home school him up until now. The "Wonder" series tells about Auggie's experiences entering school as a student who is different.

Our school day has a time to teach social skills built into our schedule. By having enough books for each of the students to read along with me they will be able to do a more in depth analysis of the book.
