Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

My Project
My ninth grade students are all recent immigrants who are learning English as their second, third or fourth language. They come from Haiti, Brazil, Honduras, Guatemala.Cape Verde, Afghanistan, Gambia, Vietnam, Portugal, Puerto Rico, and Dominican Republic. My students are incredible, hard-working young men and women who work part-time, take care of family members, play sports ,and attend our after-school programs.
Many of my students need materials to de-stress and engaging books to inspire them in order to overcome the negative impact of the recent pandemic.
More than ever, stress level is high, the de-stressing toys will help students to stay calm and think positive thoughts. students are eager to learn at school and at home, but lack of resources and the aftermath of the global pandemic continues to negatively impact their ability to focus on their academic goals right now.
The art materials, journals and diverse books will provide students with an outlet to reflect and immerse in books that promote courage and perseverance as they try to balance the daily reality of life after Covid-19 and their academic aspirations.
