My Students
How would you like to see a class who loves to learn? Well let me introduce you to my class. My students are enthusiastic eager learners who live in an impoverished neighborhood.
I work at a school in a high poverty area.
People always ask me,"Why do you teach there?" My response is, "I am needed there most." I always want to make my students feel like they can make a difference. "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."~Benjamin Franklin
These students don't accept defeat. Their goal is success. Whether it is reading or math they try their hardest to reep the rewards of what they learned.
My Project
Can you imagine students starting off the year without having to worry about school materials?
Some of my students don’t even come to school with bookbag.
During my last year of school, I had to watch as students would ask other classmates to borrow stuff because they couldn’t they didn’t have it. These would be the same students who would ask me for an extra breakfast each morning because they were still hungry.
For the new school year, I want to change that. I want all my students to have the materials they need to begin the new school. Simple things like pencils, scissors, glue, crayons and erasers will put a smile on my students faces as soon as they walk through the door. I want them to know that even though they are in a high poverty area that when they come to school, they have everything they need to learn.
Crayons and colored pencils will be used to create beautiful artwork to go along with stories they have read in class. Scissors and glue would be used to create fantastic art projects that the students can create. Every class needs pencils and a sharpener to sharpen those pencils. This will help them use their phenomenal minds to write. Contact paper will be used to preserve notebooks and folders so they will have longevity. The pencil pouch will hold the pencils, crayons, scissors, glue sticks and dry erase markers that the students use as tools for their lessons.
Learning materials are important because they can significantly increase student achievement by supporting student learning. If they have the supplies and materials that they need, they will be able to succeed in school.
