My students need games to help them learn letter sounds and beginning addition. Sound dominoes, pop to add, unfix letter cubes, and pop for letters will all help these kiddos build fluency!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Reading is a joy. 15 years into teaching, and I still firmly believe that teaching children to love to read and love to learn through reading is one of my primary goals. If they love to learn then they will do well. In order to ensure that my students love reading I need to make sure I am well equipped with new, exciting, and dynamic literature!
My school is an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse city school in an older neighborhood.
The students that will benefit from this project are 5 and 6 year olds, for most of whom, this is their first experience with learning in a formal setting. They are so excited to learn about reading, writing, and math! When I can use that budding excitement and create learning momentum with it, perfect environment for successful foundational skills to be mastered is created!
My Project
"In every job that must be done there is an element of fun, you find the fun and... SNAP, the job's a game" -Mary Poppins
Incoming kindergartners have a big dream, they are told from the get go that at school they will learn to read!
As a kindergarten teacher I have a big job, to let these eager little learners in on the secrets of reading! But we have to begin with the basics. Before we can string sounds together, we have to learn the individual sounds that each letter makes!
I want to create fun games for my students to help them learn their letters and beginning sounds more efficiently and effectively. These materials will do exactly that! The sound dominoes will allow my students time to play and simultaneously learn to identify their letters and build sound symbol correspondence, the very fundamentals of reading. These games are simple enough that the kids can play them independently allowing me time to work with small groups and solidify these skills. Kids will be able to match letters and pictures or small objects that begin with the sounds that letter makes. They will use fine motor skills when snapping the Unifix sound cubes together and then use letter sounds to create words with their cubes! The kids will also be working on beginning addition when they are playing the pop to add games. These will allow them independent practice while I am doing small group math instruction with other students.
