My Students

My students have amazing potential to change the world. Often times, this gets lost in the everyday dangers of society. It is my duty to make sure their potential is not only reached, but exceeded. They deserve the best learning environment and resources, because with these they can change the world

My students want to do amazing things, but they lack the confidence as many of them have slipped through the cracks due to an unstable learning environment and/or home life.

And even with all of these injustices that they face every day, they come to school and listen. I want them to break that cycle that many of them fall into, education is the answer for them.

My Project

As an English teacher, I truly believe that exposing students to reading can change their entire world. When students are confident and EXCITED to read, it can do amazing things for them. It can empower them to form opinions, make connections, and motivate them to do great things with their future. But often times, they are at least 2 years behind in reading, thus their confidence is down. With exciting books and a motivational environment, they can take independent reading and learning into their own hands and build that confidence to continue to read and succeed. It is proven that students who read more succeed more. The books I have chosen will make them think, get emotional, and have them make connections. This application is essential. This will allow them to not only catch up with their reading levels, but also have the confidence to continue learning and going to school as opposed to giving up or dropping out.

Only 38% of 12th graders in the US are at or above their grade level in reading.

It has been proven that reading more increases students' reading level. My students are behind at least 2 years, meaning that when my 12th graders graduate, they will not be college ready. This decreases their opportunity for college, careers, and success. But reading can change that! We can change that! By making reading exciting and building their confidence, that statistic can be eliminated.
