Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 58 wonderful bilingual, biliterate students. These are self-motivated kids that are eager to expand their learning every single day. They are all fluent in English, Spanish, and some know a third language (ASL, Mixe, Punjabi, Urdu)! They like to collaborate and work in teams. They like to ask questions and contribute to their daily learning
Our school has a 100% FREE breakfast/lunch program for everyone.
Our parents are supportive and continue to encourage their kids to persevere and try their best daily. Our school prioritizes school-home connections where teachers-and-parents work as a team to support the daily academic, social, and emotional growth of every child on campus.
My Project
In order to be bilingual and biliterate, students need to be exposed to their target languages equally on a daily basis. We have some English sets, but not enough in Spanish. The book sets requested will expose students to reading in Spanish aloud. These sets will provide multiple opportunities to practice their fluency, comprehension and expand their vocabulary.
These sets also provide a segway to talk about bullying and how to respond to it.
They're books filled with ideas and events that can be relevant to students' daily life. These books touch on bullying that can occur in a school setting as well as within the family.
