Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach students that are in a dual language immersion program; some of my students are learning Spanish while others are native speakers of Spanish. Half of their day is spent in my classroom learning content in Spanish, and half of their day is spent in another classroom learning content in English. The goal is for all the students to become bilingual and biliterate. My students have a unique opportunity to acquire a new language and open their world through new cultures.
My Project
As a first year teacher, I do not have many books in Spanish for my students to read that are at their level. Research shows that the best way to learn vocabulary is through reading and my intention is to build a classroom library that gives my students the opportunity to explore text in Spanish so they can expand their Spanish vocabulary.
With these books my students will have the opportunity to enhance their language acquisition and literacy levels while having diverse options to choose from.
My goal is to have a library with authentic content that students love to read.
