My fifth grade classroom is a place of growth and learning. A high percentage of my students are learning English as a second language and benefit greatly from visual aids and hands-on activities.
The students in my Title I classroom are fifth graders in a rural Utah town.
These students are excited to learn and find joy in the challenge that the learning process can bring. This school year we are focusing on future goals in education and maximizing the potential of each child to achieve great things as they progress through life.
My Project
This year, we have really focused on discovering the joy that comes from reading. My students have been enjoying meeting with a book club each Friday and discussing the books they are reading together. It has been such a treat for me to see their faces light up as they become excited about the stories they are reading.
My students have become so motivated to read, and I want to keep pushing them in the right direction.
If I can get materials for my students to track their reading minutes, they will be much more motivated to achieve.
The idea is for the large calendar to be posted in a central place and give students the opportunity to post their daily reading minutes. A little competition goes a long way! Being able to track reading in a more concrete way will help my students find more motivation. The books included in this project are ones specifically requested by my kids. They will be so excited to receive these and use them to start logging reading minutes. In addition, the pillows will be offered as rewards to be used in class for students who are reading consistently! My students are going to be so excited to begin the next phase of learning to love reading!
