My students need books that can be used to advance their comprehension and analyzing skills. Each student will be able to have their own book to read.

My Students
My students are currently in an ELL 5th-6th grade class in an inner-city school where reading does not come easy. Most students can speak English, however, they are not familiar with some English skills. ELL students learn best when they are able to relate their reading to real life events. My students range from intermediate to advanced readers who are always looking for a chance to get their hands on a book. Encouraging reading is my daily goal for my students.
My Project
The use of award-winning books, “A Wrinkle in Time” and “The Giver”, is almost a daily activity in my classroom, especially in ELA class. Using the books in the class will allow students to have the opportunity to have a single copy while focusing on skills we are learning. We read the book, watched the play, and watched the movie while comparing and contrasting all of them. The skills are modeled and then followed by the student. The books will allow students to participate in peer work as well as small groups that are differentiated for levels. Getting books into students hands is essential to allow them the success and opportunity they need to be successful in life and later in their education. Thank you
