Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class is a sweet group of 15 boys and 12 girls who are about to kick off a super fun kindergarten experience this school year.
They come from different backgrounds, and are a very diverse group of kids.
But they have something in common, they are going to have a blast learning Spanish at our bilingual school.
They spend half of their days immersed in a new language and it takes a lot of exposure to the new language so they can be bilingual and bi-cultural.
My Project
We know children like to read the same books over and over again, but we are running out of resources, specially when the books we have to read need to be in Spanish. Finding good quality books in a language other than English is very hard in the USA, and the classroom libraries are full with the same old fashioned stories that we have already read a thousand times.
Our library needs an update: it needs to be full with brand new stories, illustrations, and authors, good quality translations and authentic materials so my students are exposed to not only the language but the culture of different Spanish speaking countries, especially now that we will be immersed in Hispanic Heritage month.
By adding new books, we will give it a fresh air and it will kick off their curiosity and motivate them to read.
