My Students

Our school is located in a rural area in southern Oklahoma. We are always stressing the importance of reading, but most of our students do not have access to high quality literature outside the school setting.

Our students are very diverse culturally and socioeconomically.

We are constantly trying to bridge the gaps between our students so that all students leave our district with a strong, quality education. Since the beginning of the pandemic, gaps in learning have become huge due to lack of direct instruction from being out of school and a lack of parental support when trying to work at home. I want to help bridge the gaps in their learning and prepare them for their high school years.

My Project

My school is located in a very rural area in Carter County. My students have limited reading materials at home and feel as though they have read most of the books in the school library. This class has a huge reading span ranging from fourth to eleventh grades. It is obvious that they have suffered educationally during this pandemic.

The resources I am requesting will help bridge that gap in different ways.

I have added teaching materials to use in small group interventions to help students in targeted areas. I also added novels that I feel will represent my students culturally and spur their interests in reading. They will be allowed to take these books home with them as they would like.
