Mrs. Rodack from Pittsburgh PA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a document camera in order to view and analyze music together in class.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
"We are the music makers. We are the dreamers of dreams", Arthur O'Shaughnessy said, and my students apply this quote in my music class each week as they create their own music and dreams.
My students range from Kindergarten to Fifth Grade.
They love music class and are always excited to learn new music whether it is a new song to sing or to play on the recorder. My students work hard and excel in my music class. Our school is a charter school located in the inner city. Many of my students do not have the opportunity to take music lessons outside of school or even to experience music outside of school so they only have a chance to learn about it in music class.
We struggle with keeping up with technology in my music class. Right now I am using an old overhead projector to teach music in class. It is a struggle to get all of the material I need to teach on transparency paper in order to teach it to the class. There are so many music resources that I have, but am not able to always photocopy or share with students. A document camera would be used in every single age group, K-5 during class to show song lyrics, recorder music, music to analyze, composition projects, and so much more! My students will be able to experience much more in music class with this technology.
Some students have behavior problems or struggle in other subject areas.
When they come to my class, they know that they are starting on a clean slate and are ready to make music and express how they feel. If we can share the experience together and read music on the document camera, we will not only learn more technicalities of music together but will be able to express ourselves more, which is really what is important. Please help us get the materials that we need!
