Let's Read It Again! Reading With HighScope, Take 2!
Help me give my students interactive read aloud books from our HighScope Curriculum, including Z is for Moose, Elmer, Ruthie and the (Not So) Teeny Tiny Lie, and others.
My school is physically closed for the school year, but online learning is continuing through the beginning of June. Online learning and Preschool do not mix well. Much of my teaching at this time is reading books via video, which I post on my communication app. I also communicate regularly through several means of communication, so I can send parents ideas on how to work with their child.
My students are four and five year old children deemed "at risk" educationally by the state, which allows them into my classroom so that I can help them prepare for kindergarten.
My classroom is usually the first structured educational setting they've encountered. In my classroom, they gain the educational and social introduction to school that they need to succeed in their educational life.
My Project
Young children need exposure to good books and vocabulary in order to learn. Research shows that the more books young children are read to, the higher their vocabulary grows. Our curriculum has an interactive read aloud component. The books I am requesting match this curriculum, and will allow us to read quality books while using our curriculum guides.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know - The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” (Quote by Dr. Seuss.) By getting these books, I will be able to read and interact with the children, and encourage them to grow and learn.
I recently funded an almost identical project. Those books will arrive in the fall when school reopens. In HighScope, we read in two small groups. Getting another set of the exact same books now will serve two purposes: it will enable me to read these books via video NOW during the shutdown, and it will give me two sets of books for the fall when school reopens and we read in small groups again. I am requesting a double copy of one book due to problems ordering during the last project.
