Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Having reader's theater will help capture my student's imagination while reading a story from beginning to end. It allows them to see what words mean by acting them out. I am able to teach reading in a way that is exciting and fun.
That's when words become meaningful!
My students are very diverse, and each unique in their own cultural background.
They spend a lot of time on the school bus getting to our school because their families want a better future for them so they make sacrifices by having their child get on the bus as long as an hour to two hours each way to get to school. They love to read and want to improve on their learning. I have different levels of readers in my class and each can benefit from reader's theater either in the way they speak, act or express. My students love to engage in group reading, such as read aloud or practicing with their colleagues with their fluency.
My Project
If I have reader's theater books for my students, then I can show them how reading can be fun. It can also help my students who are shy to overcome their fear of speaking in front of the class since the plays will require more than one actor. Their understanding of words will grow. It can also be a great way to learn vocabulary for my second language learners. It's a wonderful way to learn with expression, and to teach them about self confidence to speak in front of a class.
This will help my students with their reading comprehension skills, fluency and being able to express themselves in a creative way by acting it out.
This can motivate students to read more and build confidence in themselves with their ability to read.
