My students are engaged, inquisitive learners who are eager to improve their reading and writing skills. As a teacher, I am hoping to provide these boys and girls with the best learning environment possible. Donations can help provide awesome supplies for helping these students reach their educational potential.
These kiddos have bundles of creativity and inspiration to do great things, both in the classroom and beyond!
They love to draw, invent and create. I employ as many of these modes of learning into my lessons as possible and we do a lot of hands-on and partner-based lessons.
Our school is moving to a model where we will be teaching social studies and reading in one, integrated class. Across America on an Emigrant Train is a book that discusses the Transcontinental Railroad and also the emigrant experience of poet and novelist Robert Louis Stevenson.
Having a class set of this book will help children build their reading skills while exploring our nation's history.
Each year, we study the Transcontinental Railroad and how its completion helped promote migration out west and also build the nation's economy. We discuss how it impacted the Native American cultures whose land was surrounding the railroad construction areas. The railroad was built right through our state, so we discuss how it impacted Nevada's economy as well. This book will help students expand on that lesson beyond what their textbooks state.
