My students this year have come from some changing backgrounds. It has been a year of ups and downs but each of them is special and amazing. The students all seemed like lost ducks but throughout the year they have all blossomed and seem ready to move on to kindergarten. We are a rural public preschool and my classroom is designed to welcome students that don't get into other programs like GSRP or Head Start. We take students wait listed or refused from other preschool programs.
My Project
I have been teaching preschoolers for the past three years and I am finally ready to tackle technology in the classroom. I've been asking myself for years how to do this without losing my students to games and making technology a babysitter in the class instead of a tool. I am finally ready to take on the challenge and make tech use in the class an active learning experience.
First of all I want to incorporate a listening and recording center in my classroom.
I not only want students to listen to books on cd but I want to record them "reading" or reciting stories of their own or one they have memorized. To do this I will use a recorder and the listening center!
Secondly I love the students pictures to come to life, with the aid of the two tablets and my classrooms smart board I will use a kid friendly program I learned about at a professional development to let students draw a line across the face of a pet, person or object they take a picture of and record it speaking. This will help to give a voice to my most quiet students.
Finally I am hoping to use the wireless keyboard to reinforce letter knowledge and give my students the practice using a real keyboard early on. Also I want to give my students a jump on keyboarding to avoid raising "hunt and peck" or "thumb texting" students and expand fine motor skills in the process.
In the end I'd love to bring my parents into the class and show them how we made technology use an active learning experience and maybe even send home sound bites or cd's created by the students.
