I have a very fun and curious group of kindergarten students this year. A large portion of them come from low income families. I want to provide my students with play based learning activities that will spark their imagination. In the world we live in, technology is in their hands earlier. Even though that is an amazing tool, students are losing the concept of play. Learning through play is one of the most important concepts in early childhood. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their imagination, and is important to healthy brain development.
My Project
Dramatic play items will help my students learn social skills as well as help build on what they are learning in the classroom. Through play, they are able to make ideas their own. For example, when learning about money, we will set up a classroom restaurant where students will take orders. When learning about different people in the community, we will set up a doctor's office. These types of experiences create opportunities for my students to make this new learning their own. To make these experiences a reality, I need to provide my students with exciting and creative tools such as the dramatic play items I am requesting. If my students are able to use their imagination freely and let their creativity go, they will become more creative and engaged students.
