Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in an elementary school in North Long Beach with over 1,000 students. At our school, 92% of students receive free lunch. 40% of our students are English language learners, and in my classroom, that percentage rises to 48%. In my particular class, I have 35 students, of whom 17 are English Language learners and one who is mainstreaming from Special Education day class. They all have a wide range of learning needs and levels. Despite many different and often difficult circumstances that they experience daily, they come to school with positive attitudes every day, ready to learn. They are motivated to do their best and to make the most of every opportunity put forward to them at school and it is my goal to provide them with as many engaging and enriching experiences that I can.
My Project
Students need to learn how to play! When I watch the students at recess, I find it interesting how many students do not know how to play and be active in organized sports and games. I want to change that and make sure that our 4th graders have the understanding and skills to try and play many active and skill building games. Through this project, the goal is to teach students valuable skills such as throwing and kicking through games, like soccer and frisbee golf, all while developing teamwork.
Through play, children learn teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship.
With these supplies, students will have the opportunity to develop important skills such as throwing and kicking. They will learn how to play the team sports of soccer and frisbee golf. With the beanbags, soft throwing balls, and frisbees, students will learn valuable throwing skills and develop their hand-eye coordination. The goals will allow students to develop their aiming skills and coordination.
My goal is to give my students as many rich, learning opportunities that I can. By teaching them a new sport, they will develop important character building skills such as teamwork, cooperation, and how to be good sports. They will also learn important skills such as throwing and kicking and will learn a new game to play during their free time. My students are very active and LOVE all things sports.
