Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the honor of teaching some of the most wonderful students in the city. Unfortunately, we do not have the proper resources they deserve. My school is predominantly first generation American- students of Mexican decent. Our students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, some are homeless, struggle with the English language, and need extra help in both math and reading.
My students need Math manipulatives to help them learn and grow to love this amazing subject.
This is my first year teaching 8th grade mathematics and I want to begin the year with fun activities. I currently have no resources for my classroom.
My Project
Math games are a valuable resource, to help students who are struggling, gain that confidence they need to persevere. When students have the opportunity to work together in a stress-free environment it allow them to grow and learn.
Utilizing these resources will help them achieve a higher level of mathematical knowledge and remove that math FEAR they have coming in.
We are constantly pressured to have math gains and I feel that having 2 days a month to learn to love math is crucial to a child's development. These games will be perfect to have set up as centers. They will not only serve as a fun activity but a plethora of learning will take place.
