My students need 12 board and card games including Penguins On Ice, Chicken Shuffle, h
Monster Café Card Game, Sleeping Queens to encourage thinking and social skills.
Students today need several experiences to not only problem solve, but work and play together in a social setting. Card and board games allow students to have fun while building necessary social skills.
My third graders are like most: creative, energetic, and fun.
They love to learn in a hands on creative approach. Building in social development into the curriculum is necessary for our students to be able to function in today's society. My school's demographic area does not participate in outside sports teams or group activities. My students are lacking in social skills development. I need to help my students not only build academic skills, but social skills as well.
My Project
I encourage my students to earn positive behavior points during the week by showing our targeted school characteristics: respect, organization, cooperation, kindness, and safety. Once they earn the points we have a Friday Game Time. Students are allowed to choose a card or board game to play. I am requesting twelve new board and card games including Penguins On Ice, Chicken Shuffle, Monster Café Card Game, and Sleeping Queens so my students have a greater choice. All games encourage students to play together in small groups of 2 to 4. We model how to be positive and encouraging toward others as well as how to be graceful non-winners. This fun reward not only helps manage positive behavior during the week, but students are also learning while playing card and board games. Students are using critical thinking skills, listening skills, social skills, and organizational skills all while having fun - but don't tell them!
Through the donation of new card and board games my students will be encouraged to become positive role models during the week.
They will also learn valuable social skills in playing together face to face with other students. This social interaction is valuable to help build essential interpersonal relationships that will lead to fewer behavior issues in the classroom. In the world of technology today we need to encourage the human connection that makes us unique.
