Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children come to school with varied upbringings, each with their own ways of solving problems. Role playing with playhouse furniture allows children to act out their problems. They play together, learning to share and get along. Getting along with others is an important skill.
Our school is in a rural area of Northern California.
We are considered a high poverty school with a free and reduced lunch rate of 88%. We also have a high percent of English Language Learners. Many of my students come to school with very little opportunities. School, for my students, is an opportunity to experience things they may never be exposed to at home.
My Project
We are asking for a set of kitchen play furniture for our "Play House" for role play. The set will create a fun, threat free environment in which children can express themselves and role play their dreams and problems. In addition, a play area helps my English Language Learners in their language skills as they interact with English speakers. Role play is an important area all children should be exposed to and allowed to experience. The playhouse furniture will act as props for the children to interact with.
Kindergarten students are at the age where they are learning how to get along with others, how to share and solve problems.
They develop so many skills such as these including, and more importantly, their self esteem. What better way to develop these life long skills, but through play? Dramatic play centers do just that! They provide a fun, threat free environment for children to play act and learn citizenship skills at the same time!
