Let's Play a Game! Learning With our Families...in Pre-K
My students need a variety of board games such as Trouble, Connect 4, and Checkers for our family game lending library to increase family interaction and learning at home.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am super excited that I am teaching the full day, four year old, pre-school class this year in a high poverty, public school. People sometimes have the perception that we are well funded because of our location, which couldn't be further from the truth! My students are mostly minority and ESL students. They are a very active, affectionate and funny bunch of kiddos.
My students want to be challenged and are very curious and excited when new items and curriculum are added to the classroom.
Although I have been teaching for twenty years, I am fairly new to this school and classroom and have found that there are many things that my classroom is lacking. I want my students to want to come to school everyday. I want materials that will challenge them, as well as provide fun experiences for them on a daily basis. This is my main focus for them as their teacher.
My Project
We were blessed earlier this year with getting a grant funded to establish a family game lending library in our classroom. I held a meeting with families to learn about the different games and the benefits of playing them. We also talked about, in the age of screens, how important it was to talk to their children and playing a game with them would now only help academically but socially as well, besides it just being plain fun! Our families checked out many games repeatedly and some are showing a lot of wear already, which is a good problem to have.
I want to add more of a variety of games to the family game lending library and replace some that are broken and missing a lot of pieces.
I am asking for a wide variety of games that not only work on academic skills but social skills as well. Games like Twister will work on large motor skills and following directions and can be played with the whole family. Several board games are cooperative games that do not end up with a winner, but instead require you to work with others to meet a goal at the end. I've also added a couple of puzzles this time for kids who are showing interest in those. Please consider giving to my proposal and thank you for valuing Early Childhood Education!
