Our classroom is located in the heart of southwestern Pennsylvania. I am a teacher of a lively life skills classroom serving 15 students with special needs. My students come from a variety of backgrounds, but one thing they all have in common is that they come to school to learn and have fun!
My students love to be creative.
Not only will this be an activity they can all do, but it will also help with their fine motor skills. They have diagnoses such as Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and intellectual disabilities. Many of them are in wheelchairs and/or are non-verbal. This doesn't stop them, though; they give their best each and every day!
After this project gets funded, I will have a guest in to help my students learn to express themselves through painting. My students love art, but we don’t have the supplies needed to paint in the classroom so that every student has a chance to have an adapted lesson.
Painting will help my students to express themselves, and it will also be good for building fine motor skills which is something that many of my students need.
My students love to be creative! We are always looking for art projects that they can do, and painting will fit the bill for them!
