This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever felt like the world is out to get you? Just because of the place where you live? That's how my inner-city student from Baltimore feel every time they turn on the TV, log into Instagram, or open the newspaper.
But they are determined to change that mindset!
No one is going to dull their shine just because Baltimore is their home! With your help, ANYTHING is possible!
My fourth graders have the spirits of giants and the personalities of heroes. Daily, we have discussions of how they can improve on their neighborhood, the larger community, and eventually the whole city of Baltimore. My big thinkers refuse to let the outside world's perspective of Baltimore foreshadow their futures.
My Project
The library in our classroom is well-loved and becoming well used. Many books have become tattered, covers have torn, and some books have visited the book hospital more times than it needs to be mentioned.
By adding new, colorful, engaging books to our classroom library, it would be like opening a brand new library with a spectacular array of welcoming books.
We would definitely love to spend even more time than we already do, looking for a title that peaks our interest, go on a journey of the mind in a clever story, or a book that would help us learn more on a topic.
