My class consists of 76 fifth grade students. Our school has over 800 students in grades 5 and 6 which makes for a large and exciting learning environment. My students come from four elementary schools within the district and this is the first time that all of the students are in the same building.
The students in our school work extremely hard every day and create a community of respect for self, property, and others.
We hold true to our "Keys to the Castle" where everyone feels comfortable to take risks and be active learners. Through quality educational experiences, we prepare students to become productive and responsible citizens in an ever-changing global society.
My Project
Over the past few years, I have worked to create a collaborative and engaging classroom. I have five round tables that the students love because they can share and collaborate with their classmates. To hold their attention and keep them engaged, the NeoRok stools are a great addition to the room. The rubber base keeps the room quiet while providing a little movement to take away the fidgets. I currently have 1/2 stools and 1/2 traditional chairs at my tables. Each day, the students rotate between using the stools and the chairs, but I know they would rather have a stool every day.
It is time to complete the project and provide all stools at my collaborative tables.
This is what the students want and would make it so much easier with a more uniformed seating selection. I will still offer the traditional chair if the students would want to need them, but I feel that the students would like the opportunity to sit on the stool every day.
