Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I, large urban middle school serving approximately 1,000 students. A large majority of our students are struggling to achieve success at school. Our students face many challenges like poverty, homelessness, disruptions in school, familial obligations, and responsibilities that pull them away from their studies and cause absenteeism, transiency, and being expected to apply and demonstrate their learning in English when English is not their first language. Despite these challenges, our students are eager to be at school, learn skills, develop relationships with their teachers and peers, participate in school activities, and be a part of our school family.

My Project

These exercise desk bikes will help students' academic performance and improve their behavior. Movement during learning helps students stay motivated and engaged. Through the utilization of these bikes, students are delivering increased oxygenated blood throughout their bodies which promotes alertness and helps their brains develop stronger connections to their learning.

During the school building closure because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many students got out of the habit of sitting at a desk during class and have had a difficult transition back to the classroom.

These exercise desks will allow them to move about within the classroom and still maintain focus and presence during class activities.
