Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from all backgrounds. Many of them face poverty, homelessness, drugs, and loss of family members due to death, deportation, incarceration, or abandonment. Some are raised in homes where parents work multiple jobs and are not home to help with things such as homework. Many of my students come to me not understanding the value of their education. These students, all students, need to feel success. Success builds their confidence and provides the opportunity to rise above their situations. Success in the classroom will promote success outside the classroom. They often get so excited about even the smallest things. They love to learn and I love the look on their faces when they finally get something.
Even on my worst days, my students can quickly cheer me up with a heart felt hug or smile.
My Project
These supplies will allow me to put together year long stations for 10 basic math concepts: multiplication, division, fractions, place value, geometry, addition and subtraction, financial literacy, word problems, time and elapsed time, and measurement and data. The stations allow students to work at their own pace. They are made for students to work collaboratively or independently. Most importantly, the stations are made for students to practice these concepts and build mastery. Mastery equals student success. In addition, the clipboards will provide a convenient way for students to work successfully and neatly regardless of the place they choose to sit.
